removal only takes 20 min with the right tools. if you got to buy the tools it could cost as much as the dlr. if ur doin it more than two times may be worth it. tools needed t25 torx driver and 3/16 ball ended long allen wrench (I use a snap on socket driven long shank allen) expensive but well worth it.
1. get a towel and fold over and put on fender (very important)
2. remove the two lower Torx head screws inside between the forks and the neck that go from the inner to outer faring.
3. remove the two torx screws that are next to the speaker grilles
4. remove the three screws that are at the windshield (i usually do the center one last) be careful not to drop indshield.
5. lift one side of faring away and up past the driving light. that should get you enoug room to do the same on the other side. squeeze clipse at plug on back of light and remove.
6. once outer faring is removed. look at the sides of the radio. there should be two allen screws on each side. use a long ball ended allen on an angle thru the holes in the side bracket to remove. it is possible if you do not have a long shank ball ended socket but it is very difficult if you do not.
7. unplug harnesses and antenna. once 4 radio screws are out pull radio back. it may get caught on the rubber gasket when removing use window cleaner or silicone dry lube to sprey on gasket for easier removal.
reinstall is the exact opposite. cautions,
be careful not to cross thread the torx screws due to the fact that they are screwing into brass inserts.
thumb tighten screws until all are in at least a few turns. also do not overtighten windshield screws as they have a tendency to pull out
make sure windscreen is aligned properly while tightening to prevent cracking
