Cleaning aircleaner

My manual says to clean the air cleaner soap and water and soak in mild detergent I don't trust this, has anyone don this? then blow dry with air hose witch I don't have, suggestions for drying, sounds like a lame question but don't need to screw something else up. 2008 XL1200L

Dish soap. Warm water. Blow dry. Style accordingly....

Does it say to oil the OEM filter? If so, you can use K&N oil, or anything like that from the motorcycle shop. Some stuff is stickier then others (dirt bike filter oil) but it'll work in a pinch.

Nothing about oiling, looks like a dry filter. Reason I'm cleaning it I noticed my oil is disappearing so I opened filter and it appears to be in filter don't understand why. I replace with same amount that was in the bike, according to dipstick when hot, now it's down about a 1/4 of a Qt. odd didn't do that when dealer changed oil, I'll have to keep close eye on it to make sure I'm correct. Thanks again.

If it's not all the way dry when you start sucking air thru it,

it will dry out pretty quick.

Ride a couple hours in a downpour, the filter is gonna get wet.

Kainam and I both have filters you can see a little of,

all of the turbo V-Rods have foam filters pointing into the wind,

the owners report the engine seems to like making bost out of a wet filter

I've done this several times and it definitely helps the bike breathe better. Blow out as much water as possible and then set the filter out in the sun for a few hours to finish drying out. Or just throw it back on the bike and let it dry overnight.
No oiling, the stock filter is a dry filter.
