S&S Super Rich snag?

Hey all,

Need to pick some brains cuz mine is hurting. I am just finishing putting a stock 1986 evo into my ride. Its a 4 spd swing arm that used to house an 88 ci shovelhead that met an early demise.

I'm using the Dyna S that i salvaged from the shovel, LAF pipes i bought for it and the S&S super E that came out of the shovel.

I've taken the carb apart, cleaned it and reinstalled it. The idle mixture and speed has been set IAW the factory manual as has the accelerator pump setting.

The bike starts and idles fine, when i try to run it up from idle it runs like crap, pops, backfires and spits fuel out the carb and i get loads of black smoke from the rear exhaust I double checked timing, and took the .295 int jet out of the carb and put in a .28.

I'm thinking i'm still rich with the .28 but that doesn't seem logical for a 1340 ci motor.

Thoughts?

You should be able to go to S&S Cycle - Performance Parts for American V-Twins and get all the information for you application, a 28 jet does sound that far off IF I remember right, you can also get the directions for setting that carb. up there.

theres a small, blue o ring that goes on the accelerator nozzle coming up from the bowl that goes thru to the carb throat, make sure its on there or the nozzle will act like another jet,and give the exact prob you have

Yes exactly ... that BLUE oring . Also turn off the fuel petcock when running the engine and if the problem clears up as the bowl empties then the float is probably hanging up .

Must have had a hell of a time getting that Evo in a Shovel frame.
