Stage-1 Upgrade

OK, I decided to upgrade my FLSTFI to stage-1, and since I have already V&H big radius pipes installed, I visited the HD dealer today to install a V&H fuelpak and a stage-1 SE airflow.

The salesman suggested to stay away from V&H, as they are facing a lot of defective parts! Instead, he recommended to go either with power commander or race tuner. I told him to hold this for a while, till I ask the HERD members

So what you think guys? Which one to choose? Keeping in mind that I'm not having any further upgrades in mind.
I know I discussed this previously in a different thread, but I'm still confused and really need your input.

Thanks in advance

So your question would be; Power Commander or race tuner?
My honest answer would be neither as they are both overkill. My recommendation would be to install a Dobeck TFI on your bike. It is demand oriented. When you crank it on, it adds more fuel. It is simple to hookup and does not require a notebook computer or a dyno to tune it. It costs (about $250.00+ shipping) considerably less than a Power Commander or the Harley race tuner. If you are a veteran you will buy it for $150.00. By using your V&H slip-ons and the Harley Stage 1 high flow air cleaner, the TFI will deliver a kick in the pants that you will feel immediately. And, the best part is that you can install it yourself as it is all plug and play. I don't work for any of the companies, I just ride.

I like the PC?. Can install yourself. If you get from Fuel Moto you will have tech support if needed, and if you do any mods on your motor they can provide maps.

First, what year is your bike ? the newer ones would do well with the PV 5 and older bikes work well with the PC USB lll... I don't care for the HD race tuner..not user friendly....The HD dealer would recommend it as they would be in line to service it and charge you a healthy rate $$$$...I can monitor my PC USB lll with my laptop and I do minor MAP adjustments without any outside help...

+1 on this. My dealer is really pushing the super tuner but I am not interested. The PCIII I had on my 07 worked great with no problems. So I will be installing the PCV on the 09 this fall as well.

Thank you all for the reply

Does the PC stand for Power Commander? And do you mean the new power commander by saying V?

If I got the breather and PC from fuel moto, can I install them by myself?

Ok here is the updates. I visited Harley Davidson shop today and ask them to order PC-V with an auto tuner for my 2006 fuel injected fatboy. They said that it will not fit, as they are made for 2009 and newer models. So he convinced me to place an order for PC III.
When I went back home, I called the fuel moto, and asked them wether it fit, and they replied positively!!

Now, who should I believe? Your advices will be highly appreciated.

That's right....the PCIII will fit your model bike. Had this on my 07 RK and it worked great!

This winter I will be installing the Stage I with the PCV on my 09.

FYI: If you get from Fuel Moto they double the warrenty and have lifetime support. So if you change something on the bike they will provide a map for you.
