1997 Sportster 1200

Hi everyone! I need a little help with my wife's bike. She has a '97 Sportster Sport. She thought she needed a new and larger gas tank, so I ordered her a 4.2 gallon Paughco tank. The tank requires a vented gas cap. I replaced the petcock with a Bikers Choice. It has no vent outlet just the gas supply.

When I started the bike fuel runs like a faucet from the vent tube in front of the bike. I assume this line is connected to the carb as a overflow or something.

The bottom of the tank has three openings. 1 for the petcock and 2 in the front that I plugged with brass plugs.

So, after all that said, what do I need to do to stop the fuel from pouring out the vent tube? Do I run that vent tube to one of the holes that I plugged or plug the carb where the vent his connected?

Or Am I completly wrong?

Are you sure the two front holes you plugged aren't for a cross over line so that the fuel can flow from one side of the tank to the other like the touring model HDs ?
