ThunderMax/AutoTune Advice & Info
I've been running a PCIII on my 04 EFI Fatboy for the last couple of years. I've never been really satisfied with the results it has given me and I am ready for a change. Been reading a lot on this and the other forums lately about the TM with AT. Am I understanding correctly that with TM and AT I will not have to do anything but install it correctly, start my little dumplin and let it adjust to the optimum tune. No downloding maps or tweeking at all? I can loose the PCIII and all my headaches will go away? The bottom has dropped out of my MPG since I cannot get anything in AR but E10 fuel. Im hoping the TM/AT will help me with this also. I would appreciate any input from anyone out there with knowledge and experience concerning this issue. Thanks in advance...fatboydoc

Doc04,
I have Tmax, after spending hours trying with add on fuel delivery changers unsuccessfully.
It is not as simple as you say in your inquiry.
Tmax has starter maps for differently equipped bikes.
I have stock bike and started with Zippers recommended map which I slowly reconfigured to suit my style of riding.
I added timing in places and reduced fuel in places from the original map.
This is the beauty part of the Tmax, you can make changes and save as a new map and retain your previous map.
If you don’t like the new changes, just write the previous map back to the ECM.
If you are close, auto tune will tweak afr's (fuel air ratio) +/- in a few riding sessions.
Timing changes are manually done on the map pages very simply with the computer arrow keys and copy and paste feature.
I know now I could have saved money and time going with Tmax first.
Al

According to Matt Sanna from Mobile Cycle Service in Corona, CA, The Thundermax is a closed loop, wideband system. You will need a sensor bunge installed in each of your exhaust downpipes or use a late model exhaust system with them installed. I plan on putting a Thundermax on my scoot later this summer and will heliarc weld a bunge in where it is not visible and then just plug it in. Also Matt told me that there are basic Maps installed and the system self checks itself constantly..
