Help, Motor dieing while riding

86 FXR S&S Carb
very low miles and it had set up,I replaced the dirty air filter 3 weeks ago the 1st time it die'ed and put some seafoam in the tank no problems, several hunfred miles later it die'ed today running 45 mph.Pulled off the road and started [poorly] back up.never missed a lick for the 1 mile ride to the house.

bike normaly accelerates good but I have noticed lately that sometimes it seems to have a little pause when bumping up the speed a bit

should I start with the fuel filter?

Petcock or fuel filter? Maybe take your fuel line off and watch it drain into a tank and see if it is a fuel starvation problem.

I love them old FXR's. Great bike.

You might have a bubble of water in the S&S float bowl and it won't go away by itself . Put a small container under the float bowl and pop out the plug on the bottom of the bowl ( it screws out ) . You can drain some more fuel if you leave the petcock open to make sure all water is out of the system .

I had a tiny bit of water in the bowl.

Took it for a spin and so far so good but tomorrow I'm gonna check it again.

THANKS

I was thinking the same thing.

I have a pump with a very small hose and I thought about pumping out the tank if I find anymore water tomorrow.

UPDATE

Did the sunday morning ride last week and she died again.Checked the bowl again and some more water.I had already picked up a filter so this past week I drained everything and replaced the filter.

New gas and a bit of Seafoam and the ride today was flawless.I hope I got it.
