Exhaust glowing.

Hi all,

Just got back from a night ride, and when I pulled in the garage I noticed my pipes were glowing for about the first 8-10 inches.

My ride is an '09 Fat Bob and is completely stock. I am sure this is not a major problem, but it has me a little concerned. I plan on a Stage 1 next summer but am wondering if I should put a PC-V on now to help cool things down, what do you think? Will this help?

Thanks
Adam K.

I would say lean. Everything I have read about new bikes says they run very lean from the factory, EPA crap.

There have been more and more stories about this popping up......

It's due to being lean. I'm not saying it's normal, but I've seen it on my racebike as well, (non-Harley) and that was with a factory map.

Adding a PCIII-USB and richening the mixture stopped it.

I'll bet most of you (with late model EFI bikes anyway) would see the pipes glowing, not cherry red, but just dull red, if you looked in the dark. You can't be looking at the shields, you have to be looking behind the shield at the pipe itself.

I have noticed both the Lowrider and the V-Rod doing it when I started the bikes up and had to go back into the house for a minute, so there "warm up" cycle, if there is on, went on for 5 minutes w/o moving the throttle.
