Harley crap!!!..DAVE63 input??
I know remember why I ALWAYS go aftermarket. I bought the Harley SCREAMIN EAGLE HEAVY BREATHER, went to put it on bike today & the main body back plate just disintegrated CAST Garabage chromed! ....
Now let me ask you this (DAVE) Im sure your all mighty knowledge will know?...I said fark it & still bolted up everything to get idea of look, I even plugged in Power Commander. Now here's the question.....I noticed that the backing plate to breather although tight as possible still had a 3/16 gap Now they tell you to discard the thick gasket, '09 RK is a 50mm throat. The backing body has got to be the wrong part, will not close gap...So, w/ that said I now have breather (broken w/ an air gap) & PC all set. Now PC was tuned my Motofuel, FOR MY BIKES SPECS!!
I turn on bike, EFI does it's thing & engine light comes on then goes off...I say F-it & try to start, bike's blowing black smoke (way to lean) & engine light stays on. Now Im hoping it's the gap, causing back pressure or if it's the PC? Maybe both? Wasted most of the day cleaning & working on bike, only to have the HD crap breather mess up the day , does look cool though!
so question in short "WILL THE AIR GAP CAUSE THE ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON, BIKE SMOKE & NOT STAY STARTED? THINK AIR IS MESSING UP PCV????

If you bolted up the backing plate, and there's still a gap, the screws are too long, meaning something is missing. I need a part number for the Heavy Breather kit to compare and make sure it's the right one.
If the bike's blowing black smoke, it's too rich. If your PC is a learning PC (V with add-on) it will read the air leak at that 3/16" gap as more air then necessary, and richen the mixture.
If it's NOT a learing PC (or closed loop type system) then you have another problem going on.
Scan the ECU for codes and see if it's telling you O2 sensors are out of spec, or reading too low. (which is why the ECU went full rich.) The O2 sensors should fluctuate, and if not, and they stay too lean or too rich, it could set a code.
If the light came on, andd stayed on, a hard code should be there.

Part # is 29253-08A. Directions say to use stock breather bolts? Other than that, kit was complete? Something not right?? I have the PCV, It's suppose to be programmed by nitro fuel for my bike? Gunna call them, make sure info is correct. I ended up putting stock back on, bike ran fine, engine light went out. PC may be fine & sensing the extra air being sucked? Directions tell you to cap the stock O2 sensors w/ provided plugs, takes them out of loop?
thanks Dave

The O2 sensors are disconnected and capped because it's a piggyback system that is programmed via a laptop and a MAP. If you had the add-on learning programmer, it would have wideband sensors with it, and converts the system into a learning system, like the T-Max programmer does.
If it's running rich, it may be the programming. You said you put "Stock" back on and it ran fine. Stock ECU?( PCV disconnected?) Stock air cleaner?
The air intake is pretty straight forward. The only other part # is 28716-10, which is for Touring bikes with lower fairing glove boxes. Your's is for the one without.
Having a majopr air gap BEFORE the throttle body can cause issues..... take another look at your mounting kit and just make sure there's something you're not overlooking or possibly putting on in reverse.
Sometimes, stupid stuff is the hardest to see, when it's right in front of you.
Are you SURE you're supposed to use the stock head bolts that go into the breathers? It should have chrome bolts that come with that............maybe I misunderstood you.
