Stripping wax from the bike

I spilled some gas onto the tank, making swirls and fine scratches in the paint. This winter, the bike is going in the garage where I'm going to work on building it with tons of chrome for next spring. To detail the paint I'm planning to strip the wax, apply turtle wax polish compound, then followed by mothers carnuba wax. This is my first time detailing this bike in depth.. so what can I use to safely strip the wax? Also, does this sound like a good plan for it??

The gasoline didn't make the fine swirls and scratches, rather, whatever you wiped the gas off with did. A good polish, or finishing paste will take that off. If it's a dark color, like dark blue or black, a buffer works better with a good foam pad. You can be there all day trying to get marks out of dark colored paint, by hand.

Easiest thing to do to strip off wax, is to wash the bike with Dish soap. Dawn, Polmolive.....doesn't matter. It's a safe detergent and takes wax right off. Wash it once or twice and you'll notice that the water stops beading on the paint......

Not sure why you want to "compound" the paint, if it's not damaged. Besides, the paint isn't "paint" rather the clear coating is Poweder coating, so be careful about using any abrasives on it.

Sometimes using a clay-bar with water, waxing and using micro towels or good, clean cotten towles will give you results better then expected.
