Advice

Hello fellow motorcyclists, I have a Triumph Tiger 1050, which I will be trading for a Harley Davidson very soon, I'm thinking the softtail standard or dyna custom. I am 6 foot tall and would appreciate the highway pegs of the softtail, however I've read reviews about a vibration in the engine, also a clunking sound when starting up. Can someone offer some guidance, as this will be only be my second big bike. Thank you

Harleys vibrate? Softtails (99 and later) have counter balancers to cancel out vibes. Dynas are rubber mounted to cancel vibes. The pegs on the softail might be a little close for ya. Moved mine forward 3 inchs with an Arlen Ness kit and now my bike fits me perfect.

lfarende, go to the new members section and introduce your self and you will find that you will get alot more responses to any questions you may post here. Kinda one of our pet pevees, as we like to know that you plan to stick around and participate in our daily nonsense and adalesent behavior. Any way welcome!
As far as the softtail and a vibration in the engine I have not heard any one that I know who rides a softtail mention this or anything about a clunking when starting. I have family members with both the softtail and the dyna's and they have not had any problems. Harley's are going to have some vibrations and some noises that you are not going to have on metric bikes, that is a trade mark so to speak that makes them a Harley. As far as wich bike you should get, no one can answer that for you. You must make that decision for yourself. If you have your endorsment you can visit your local dealer and ride a few bikes to see what you are comfortable with and make your decision from there. Good luck and welcome to the dark side.

if its mostly highway pegs that are turning you onto a softtail than those can easily put those on a dyna for a small price and a few bolts. all depeneds what youre looking for. i love my dyna the rubber mounted engine barely vibrates at all(but come on now its a harley aka the milwakee vibrator, thats half the fun, well its all the fun for the old lady) it handles a hundred times better than my dads fatboy. The only thing i have noticed is there seems to be a little more out there for aftermarket parts for softails.

I've had 2 soft tails, both Fat Boys and I have a Dyna now. There is a big difference in handling. The soft tails rode nice but cornering is not there. Comming from a Tiger you will notice the handling issues more than the engine differences. There are vibes but it's not a buzz like some of the I4 engines. Ride them yourself and see what works for you.
