black pipes on a crossbones

got a new xbones.

i want to blacken the pipes. i'm thinking if i remove them and spray on a self etching primer and then apply several coats of bbq paint it should come out okay.
...
has anybody here done this?

or do most folks think i should just leave them be.

appreciate any inputs.

thx,

I've seen guys get them sandblasted to really etch the chrome so the paint will stick, then get some high temp BBQ spray paint....I repainted my black Thunderheader with it and it holds up well...Got the paint from ACE Hardware..

my dad bought an oven at a garage sale just for this type of work.
he dries leather goods in it, he bakes paint in it and he makes jerky in it!

The bike will look better with black pipes. I would try to buy some already black pipes. They use to sell them..a black enamel/ceramic or something coated exhaust pipe? Or wrap black heat tape around them?
