cool deal for me

buddy of mine came over yesterday to drop off a helmet he wants me to paint. I hate to paint over the paintjob on it now, but that's a whole other story.
I am already painting the sidecovers for his sportster, and we got to talking about what it will cost him for me to do everything.
He stopped mid sentance (in deep thought) then said something to me that made my day. he wants me to continue on the paintjob, and he made me an offer for payment.
He will pay for my costs in paint, clear, etc, and for labor, he is giving me a 1972 Harley 350 sprint.
the bike belonged to his late father in law, and had been stored in an old wood shed for the past 15 years or so. he said it is not great shape, but not bad. no dents in tank, motor still turns over (he said about a month ago he cranked the kickstart and everything moved freely) said there is some rust and it doesn't currently run.

his sister in law told him to get rid of the bike because it wasn't worth anything, they wanted him to just take it to the scrapyard with a truckload of junk metal.

He is not interested in a bike of that nature at all, but he said he knew I would tinker with it and fix it up, so it was mine if I wanted it.

I haven't seen it yet, I am supposed to go look at it this weekend and if I like it and agree to the deal, we are loading it in my truck and bringing it home.

I am sure a sprint will be hard to find parts for, and might not be easy at all to make it run again, but hte price was right and might end up being a cool project, even if it does take 2 or 3 years to restore.

I know it's quirky and the thing will most likely never be worth anything, but none the less, I think it's cool

Sounds like a neat little project there. I believe there are a few forums devoted strickly to the Sprint models. I wouldn't mind having one too just to mess with.Oughtta be a good time fiddling with it.

will get pics as soon as I get her in my garage, then I will most likely take pics along the way as I tear down and clean up, and start the restore, rebuild process

did a lot of looking last night in google images at different sprints to get an idea of how the paintjob should look, etc.
after I get it, I will probably have to join a sprint forum to try and learn what it is I am dealing with

Sounds like something worth looking into for sure! To trade labor for a potential worthy item has always been worth it to me. I'd want the title in case it works your way. No title will reduce it's resale value if you decide that, but you knew that. i rode the 125, 250 & 350 back in their day and man I "knew" I was cool! it said Harley Davidson on the tank so that made me feel like a bad azz 12-13 yr old heh...

That is cool. You can't beat owning something that is rare or hard to find.
