E15

Ok my friends, The EPA has given the ok to make e15 fuel. This fuel will damage our motors and other small engines. With them knowing this they still approved it. I understand that harley came out with a warning on this. Does anyone have the article? If so will you send me the link? Did you also know in this vast state of Califorina we have a whopping 5 stations. What our your thoughts if any.

I thought the EPA gave their approval for E-15 manufacture a year ago. It hasn't been mandated (yet) just approved for any company/refinery that feels like making it.

This doesn't surprise me. There's a station near me that has E-20.

I think we can find better use for that corn. Like feeding the hungry and corn whiskey. From what I understand that when it is mandated we will have to buy a minimum of 4 gallons of this stuff. Now my tank only holds 5 and some of my friends only have a 3 gal tank. Were is the other gal going to go? On the ground!! If you want to know more about this contact your local ABATE. I was looking for harley davdsons warning on this.
Boy I sure hope you don't try to put that e20 in your tank. Cage or bike.

With 15%, I can tell you that corrosion levels will increase unless stainless parts are used in the fuel, and water in the fuel issues are going to be more noted. 20% is gonna be a problem, period.

I also would be inclined this isn't going to help in stored fuel's longevity either.

15% ethanol will also decrease MPHs even more....

Ethanol burns cooler than gasoline, because it produces less BTUs. Less BTUs equals more fuel to make the same power.

Facts are facts.

Every engine we converted to make an alcohol engine (358 Tri-track Sprint car engines) needed much larger jetting in the carb to run more fuel to make the same power.

We used the alcohol because it ran cooler, gasoline's content is too varied when you buy it from place to place, you can run higher compression and more advanced ignition timing with alcohol and alcohol is safer in the event of a crash. It'll still burn, but has a higher flash point. Alcohol is tougher to see burn during the day, but it also has an additive to make it more visible.

Alcohol is also lighter than gasoline. About 1/2 lbs a gallon lighter. Multiply that times 15 gallons, and you save 7.5 lbs in the rear of a car with suspension settings all weight related.

The 4 gallon minimum is correct. I suspect it has something to do with needing to have that minimum amount of real gasoline in order to help stabilize the ethanol. I also wonder if pumps will need to be re-cailbrated?

Whatever the case it isn't good and like we all know already, it isn't a matter of if but a matter of when. Since this is being pushed by the EPA I wonder if Romney wins and changes the secretary of the interior and other cabinet appointments, will that effectively halt the mad push by the EPA?

EDIT: Just found the answer to the 4 gallon minimum and yea, it aint good.

I think this was directed towards me. I never put anything but straight gas or E-10 in my bike. My truck is flex fuel and I decided to give E-20 a chance. My mileage suffered. Went from 15.2 to 14.8 and E-85 is even worse. E-85 isn't even close to worth it anymore. If it was $1.50 a gallon I'd probably use it.
