Visited a lady in her new high rise apartment a while back and there was no place to park anywhere near the building. Not even for a motorcycle. So I parked in the horseshoe shaped driveway in front that was meant for dropping people off, and went in. Even though I was well off to the side and not in the way, I asked if she thought my bike was safe there, worried some busybody might mess with it just because I parked in a no parking area. She said "Don't worry, it's a Harley. Everyone here would be afraid to mess with it because you could be part of the Hell's Angel's." Too bad it's not like that everywhere!

That, right there, is why I have the "Support your local BIG RED MACHINE, Hamilton" on the windshield of my bike. When cops ask I tell them I thought it meant the Cincinnati Reds and look all surprised when they try and tell me it means HA. I don't think I'm fooling them though.

Been there buddy. I lived in an apartment on a fairly safe street. I had two covers stolen off my old Yamaha. In both cases it was kind of time for a new cover as they loose their water repelentcy. Oncei got my Superglide I bought the thickest best covering could find and never let it spend the night without the Kryptonite cable lock threaded through. Not theft proof but it be a hassle to deal with it..that coupled with the bright street light that made inconspicuous activity impossible.. Hopefully this is just a sloppy pick and run and the last time someone will mess with your bike.

The only real theft insurance is a good insurance policy, that covers all your extras.

I just ordered the Gorilla alarm, and i have 2 disc locks on it..I've had a few other bikes in my parking spot over the years never had any trouble before this.
The cop told me its a lot more easy to steal from a parking space than off the street..I live in a nice area in sf..but there is a lot of homeless here since i dont live far from Golden Gate park..I have it in my friends garage till my alarm comes in 2 days..I have good insurance...But i have to pony up the first $500 on it

These incidents are tough to hear about. I know 99.9% of people are honest, but it's that .1% of thieves that gets my blood boiling. A few weekends ago at a place near where I live, some punk a** thieves stole all of the toys in a Toys for Tots box. Luckily the community helped out to refill it this past week, but I wish these people would get caught in the act and at a bare minimum meet the business end of a baseball bat.
