If bikes are blocking or holding the fast lane and will not let others pass, I have and will pass them. The right lane is the travel lane, the left is passing. Left is not for bikers that can't deal with traffic.

Guy was an unsafe a$$hole.. only thing constructive to take from the experience is watching in those mirrors, group rides or solo.

Come on, man. Totally unsafe, period. Nobody should be passing you in your lane.

The OP said there were cars in the right lane.. They were not holding up the left lane so that no one could pass. the guy coming through them could have waited for his time to pass them all in another lane, NOT weave through them to get by that is very unsafe and disrespecetful to the fellow riders of the road.

Have had a few bikes pass me on the right side of me in my lane, not the most comfortble thing to have have happen.
Have had a few pass me on the left side of me while in my lane, not quite as nerve racking.
I have also passed groups of 25 to 50 bikes in my lane as I approached them going slower than the posted speed limit.
I just swing far left, ride the center line and cruise past them, never got the one finger salute from any of them as that is what is exspected of a solo rider when they come apon a group out for event ride or social ride and they are not traveling up to speed on a 2 lane road.

Totally unsafe and uncool to block others, we are not the cops. If some one wants to go faster, I let them by, they may save me from a ticket down the road.

I believe it is illegal in all states to pass another vehicle in the same lane. A motorcycle is entitled to one full lane, same as any 4 wheeled vehicle.
I was riding home from work one afternoon in the HOV lane, and a DPS motor cop passed me on the left , in the shoulder. Freaked me out because you don't expect traffic on your left in the HOV lane, and I didn't hear his ST1300 until he was passing me. I was watching traffic to my right so I could change lanes and didn't see him approaching in my rear view.
A motorcycle is also entitled to a full parking space, but don't get me started on that. That's another rant for another day.

uhhh just to play Devils advocate,,,,,, scooters do this to cagers ALL the time,,, if the rice burner did it , and no one was hurt,,, then he must have done it safely enough,,,,, lane sharing is legal here in CA , but not at that speed,,, not absolutely sure about riding side by side here at 65 mph,,,,so besides being rude it may have been illegal,,,,, just sayin you can't have it both ways,,,

Don't know where you ride, but I don't see many bikers passing cars in their lanes.....at least, not more than once.
It may be that the only purpose for your life is to serve as a warning to others.
