Gauge Query

The speedometer/odometer on my night train said "Harley Davidson Certified" on the bottom. The gauge on my Road King does not.

Anyone know what's up with that?

"Harley Davidson Certified" ... now what could that mean ??? I've seen that before on different H-D parts but never figured out what it meant !!!

Maybe an aftermarket gauge? Mine just says "Harley-Davidson".

It means that the MOCO has checked it out and you, D'Japs, indeed have a "speedometer/odometer".

08' Road King - says Harley Davidson in the same color and font as 03' Night Train. It's just missing the word "certified"

Maybe the RK is a fake. You didn't buy it off some NYC street vendor did you?

FWIW, my '04 has the "certified" label on it also. I just assumed it was on there because it sounds like of bada$$.

Maybe it's a referb and HD says it's good to go? Or maybe a an aftermarket that they certified as good for HD models? You know, like when you buy a used care that have that silly sticker that says "Chrysler Certified" on the windshield.

The only place I've ever seen "certified" in relation to a speedometer is in a police car. Could your speedo be one meant for a police bike?

Example

JP-- I think you've got a HD knockoff, flip the bike up side down and see if it was made in China.. Mine's got the Certified right on the speedo.. real deal here

Something else to think about: Certified means the mileage is documented each time a unit is replaced or repaired. If it is replaced, the HD replacement will be set for the same mileage as the original. Was the bike purchased used or do you know if the speedo was replaced for any reason?
