Definitely going to get the extended warranty.

The final straw in my decision on whether or not to get an extended warranty happened today. I was plodding along the interstate at about 65 mph when my check engine light came on and the bike started sputtering and stuttering, almost like it was running on only one cylinder. I pulled onto the shoulder and the engine quit. I tried to start it a few times and it would not turn over so I turned off the ignition and said a couple of things that dear saintly Sister Corita would have rapped my knuckles with a ruler for, and tried again.

She started up and ran fine the rest of the way to work (about 20 miles). The dealer is coming today to pick it up and have it looked at (is ready for the 25K service anyway so double good).

Added to the other stuff that has happened with my scoot, I am convinced that an extended warranty is definitely the way to go.

Check the battery terminals.

While I agree that the extended warranty is a great idea, it also has to do with the relationship with you and your dealer.

I've read stories of people taking bikes to their dealer, WITH THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, and the dealer just keeps saying, "Oh that's normal" or worse yet, (to me) replacing the broken parts with the same parts that are known to break, and not fixing the cold, rather only the sniffles.

Good advice Dave, but I think I would do well with it as the new GM at my dealer is a guy I worked with until last Friday when he left to take over the HD shop.

That's great.

Personally, I think it's worh the money, as one "major" event pays for itself in one shot. I love the bikes, but things can go wrong, and I'd rather not be footing that tab, if I had the opportunity to get someone else to pay for it.

I used to know the techs at my local dealer, but recent changes in staff and ownership have changed all that. They seem like good guys, but I'm already hearing the gossip stories. I treat them as gossip (Read: Unhappy customer) until proven otherwise.

One reason I bought a new bike was for a warranty...and to do more PGR missions...I cant afford to pay HD a big chunk of money right now for repairs...Iam about 1 1/2 years out of having all my stuff payed for..house , land ect.ect...till then a warranty might come in real handy......

And if you buy the extended warranty when you buy a new bike you can negotiate the price and length of the extended coverage. I bought 3 additional years of coverage for less money than they wanted for the two year to begin with. In five years I'll be buying a touring bike...but if I decide the sell the FXDC sooner the warranty is a nice option to entice a potential buyer.

I have lost my mind. I have ventured out to find it. If it returns before me, please hold it until I return.
Thank You.

my brother is a tech for harley and what he told me was unless you have the tools and they indepth know how, the warranty is well worth it. It seems the more expensive stuff always goes first. I purchased that plus the tire and wheel. Tires and rims covered for the 5 year unlimited I have for a warranty. Not too bad for less then 2k on a used bike!
