Ride Report: Greasebag at Laconia trip

Left home wednesday morning at 400am. It was foggy Got to the convenience store and met with Jimmy. Had Monster and a sammich and we got on our way. headed north through the Poconos and saw a bear cub playing. Thought it was a good idea to keep moving as usually, the mother isn't far behind. Headed into Milford, PA and gassed up, and used (polluted) their bathroom. People like me are why places like that refuse to allow the public to use their facilities.

Headed into New York and no sooner we hit the border, it begins to rain. Rain and mist haunted us all the way into RI, where we made camp for the night. Ate hotdogs and Cup-O-Soup cooked over a fire.

Headed out thursday morning, with fair skies and warn temps. Headed through RI and into CT. Just about out of CT, and almost into Mass, I hit a bump where bridge construction was going on, and it bottomed me out so bad, it jarred my teeth, crushed my spine and sent my rear wheel up into the fender almost 5" of travel, impacting the rear fender with the caliper's top. One spent airshock.......

Rode event free through Mass, and about 45 minuted outside Hyanis, where you take a ferry to Dean's, the skies opened up. I still had my rain gear on, and soon discovered it leaked though the seams of the crotch. Yippy....

Rode to the Ferry doscks, paid $153.00 for a round trip ticket to Nantucket and back. We were loaded on freighter with 8 tractor trailers at 1130am, rather then wait until 230pm for the car carrier. The staff was less then friendly and we were treated like second class citizens, as apparently Nantucket is not that "biker friendly".

Got to Deans, and the drinking began...... Met his friend Mike and between the 3 of us, we hammered away a case of Heiniken, a 12 pak and a 30 pack of Coors Light in one night. Dean's bike is amazing. Pictures do it no justice. He put Jimmy and I up for 2 days, cooked killa BBQ chicken and ribs, and we hung out and worked on bikes all day friday. The weather was lousy, so we missed out on getting the 25 cent tour of the island.

Dean is the most hospitable guy you'll ever meet. He put us up in HIS bedroom with a queen sized bed each, and he and his badass cat slept in the living room on the couch. I can't thank him enough for his generosity and we had a great time there...... He's good people.

Saturday, we headed out at 545am to get the first ferry. Took some pics on the ride and headed off to New Hampshire for the Greasebag show, 195 miles away. There at lunch time, we saw some AMAZING bikes. Watched burnouts and roamed the swapmeet.

We went back to the campgrounds by about dinner time, had a few beers and made camp. Dean and a few other guys went out for dinner and Jimmy and I hung out and made dinner. The weather was BAD that night with almost 2" of rain over night.

To be continued:

Sorry......severe thunder/hail storm just passed through.

No code. No boobies....no nipples.....

Jimmy and I didn't sleep a wink that night. The parying was loud and ran until 430am. Despite the rain, people were partying into the early hours. My wife called me to tell me my daughter wasn't feeling well, and it got worse as the morning progressed. She went to the hospital and it turned out to be, what they believe to be, gall bladder related. Elevated enzymes and what not. Needless to say, hearing that, I made a bee-line for home. With one small drawback......the rain made soup out of the campground, and we were at the bottom of a large, dirt-trailed hill.

Jimmy found (at 6am no less) some unsuspecting dude strolling to the bathrooms to take a leak, and here, as luck has it, he has a 4x4 truck. I scored a nylon rope from the campsite owner (Lisa) and we litterally had to slow-pull both bikes up the hill, leaving 3" deep ruts, just to get the bikes out. It was INSANE. Of all things, I wished I got pics of that. Here's the kicker..........: The dude that pulled us up the hill at 6am, (never got his name) refused to take any coin. I handed him a $50 and his reply was, "Hey bro....you needed help and I was here to help you." He refused it. I handed it to his friend standing there, and he said, "We don't roll like that. We help out brothers....."

We left the new tent (8'x10') standing, the 2 new sleeping bags in it, along with the air mattresses, 3 8'x10' tarps, kitchen pots and utensils, one battery powered lantern and my pair of sneakers. I told the dude that the stuff was his.

I owe you guys big time. It was a tribute to how true bikers treat other bikers. No questions. No excuses, and no expectations of a payback. I was speachless.

Now.....if you recall......Dean, Mike and Sean went out for dinner the night before and never came back. Here. the weather was so bad, they got stuck while they were out in a torential rain, and ended up sleeping at some dude's house that put them up. Again....another brother looking out after other brothers. Of course, that brother had a jacuzzi, and beer and Dean will have to fill you in on the rest of that gig.......

We rode home at a brisk pace. It was a total of 432 miles to my door, which we did in just slightly less then 8 hours, stopping for gas, a quick bite to eat and 2 traffic jams due to one car accident in CT, and 1 in the Poconos, due to flea marketers that I wanted to beat with a carpenter's hammer at that moment.

All in all......4 days total of riding, and the tally is as follows:

76 cans/bottles of beer (for 3 people in 1.5 days)
$159 in tolls
$120 in camping stuff
1018 miles driven in 4 days
memories that will last a lifetime.
