Front disc brake drag

I posted the "lever" fix for the Kelsey Hayes front disc brakes, (2000-2006) however, I've had a "dragging" noise in mine since I got the bike.

I removed the calipers, (like you would to clean the pistons) only this time, I took a square stock (1/2 x 1/2) and placed it where the pads would be. I placed one of the caliper mounting bolts over one of the pistons, then, by rotating the bolt and stock, pushed each piston out, one at a time.

I'd push a piston out by pumping the lever, (not all the way, rather only about 5/16") then, clean around the entire piston with a small brass brush. Push that piston in, move the stock and bolt, and do another piston. There's 4 pistons per caliper.

Once done, reinstall your pads, (REMEMBER....ONE PAD HAS A SQUARE TAB AT THE TOP. ON THE LEFT SIDE, THAT TAB IS ON THE INBOARD PAD. ON THE RIGHT SIDE, IT'S ON THE OUTBOARD PAD.) Pump up brakes when all done, and wa-la.... no more brake drag, period.

If the pistons have built up dirt at the seal level, they retain more stiction, and will not return as far as necessary, with will result in brake drag and premature pad wear.

Total time: 40-60 minutes
