I hope Harley does something with the ZTL-2 brake system and the new Helicon engine that Buell designed. Coming from a Buell factory trained tech i'm here to say both are great technologies. The Buell bikes were all great. Gonna miss them.

As mentioned before, it isn't necessary.

I wonder if this 21.3% drop in sales has anything to do with the unrealistic prices that HD are charging?
|
FWIW, other manufacturers, including the big four from Japan with their lower prices, are down even more.
As for Buell and possibly MV, this is sad news. Luxlamf has a good point... these marques were to bring a younger buyer to Milwaukee's business portfolio given their exisiting customer base is aging and shrinking. My guess is they are going to introduce H-D's in the coming years with younger buyer appeal. They have to.

In regards to the age of new Harley owners, I'm 22 and never gave a second thought to buying any other type of bike. A lot of friends of mine would kill to ride a Harley but economically it wasn't really an option, but you can me damn sure when they get the money they'll be riding Harleys as well. A lot of the younger guys I know who do ride Harleys never wanted a sports bike or even be caught dead on one, to me saying having Buells on the show room floor in order to bring "younger" customers in seems off to me. If you walk in wanting a Buell and walk out with a RK... well then thats one hell of a salesman. I also think that HD might not be seeing a lot of young customers buying bikes off the showroom floor because they are very expensive, younger people are more likely to buy a used Harley from a private seller. Now the presumably older guy who sold the bike will often go back to the dealer and buy a new bike. Just my thoughts

I was in the dealership this week most bikes on the floor had big red discount tags, I saw a Buell tagged "Was 11,999 now 7,999" but all that were tagged were down $2000, a few down by $3000. Might be last years models.
