I did not write the apps for Motorcycle.com but, I can write programs for both Android and iOS at the same time with Adobe Flash Builder. It is easier and cheaper for me to distribute programs for Android than it is for me to distribute the iOS version on the Apple marketplace.
Apple brings this on themselves by charging developers to put their apps on the Apple marketplace, and forcing this to be the only way for users to get apps. And this is also part of the reason Android is taking over marketshare over iStuff.
With Android, I could put an app on my own website (if I had one), send you a link, and you could download it. You would know it wasn't the Android marketplace (now Google Play), and once you acknowledge that you are downloading from a different site, you can take the risk and download that app.
Also, the software development tools for Android are free where a developer must pay for the development tools from Apple, or the one from Adobe that enables developing on Android/Apple/Blackberry.
So without knowing the specific details of the Motorcycle.com app, this is what I assume is going on.... Motorcycle.com is just covering their costs.
