Everyone needs to focus on safety. It seems that we have a tendency to forget over time that riding safe saves lives. . Keep the rubber side down and ride safe

We just lost a rider and passenger on their H-D to a van crossing over the line on a 2 lane non-divided highway. Both were killed and the van driver is charged. I couldn't help but wonder if they were in the inside part of their lane or on the "curb" side. I got into the habit of trying to keep as much room as I can when meeting traffic. I ride the inside part of the lane normally, but, when I meet traffic, I will get over to the "curb" side to allow as much room as I can get. I have been riding since about 1966 and have had my share of drivers come at me. I have had to hit the curb to keep from being a hood ornament, and I have had one old fart try to force me into the curb on purpose (we talked about it after I followed him home..claims he didn't see me..brown sugar...he was looking at me the whole time). One guy started honking his horn at me and I held up 3 fingers to let him know the speed limit was 30 mph. He answered by kicking it into passing gear while still behind me. I went into the median as he went by. I carried a tire iron fastened in a broom-handle clip for a long time after that. Never did see him again. Any way, watch out for the other vehicle and discuss it after you save your butt.
