timing chain tensioners

can anyone tell me why the tensioners on a road king go bad im told that when they are replaced they nlast longer than the originals then why dont they use the replacements the first time

I suggest you ask this question again in the Tech/Engine area. Some of the gurus don't make it in to the intro section much.

But, what year Twin Cam? there a re a couple of different systems for chain tension. The original spring loaded system had issues, but I thought the late model hydraulic tensioner was all good. Anyway, they still last a long time between replacement.
I was reading in American Iron that some dealers recommend every 60,000 and some say there is no set time, they are getting more than 60,000.
