New from Iowa
I live in Mason City and just bought my first Harley this summer. I rode dirt bikes when I was in High School, but always wanted a Harley. My wife asked me to get rid of the Yamaha I had when we got married. She hates motorcycles. At the time I also had a Vette, so I gave in. Then last year she agreed I could get a bike. I also set a goal of losing weight and with the incentive of a bike I lost 65 pounds in one year, thus the name exfatboy. As it would be, I bought a Fatboy. I love it. I didn't realize how much I had missed riding until I bought the bike. It seems all of the stress of work is forgotten as soon as I start the bike. The bad part is now I have to put it away for the winter because I live in northern Iowa. Can't wait till next spring to be back out. By the way my wife still hates bikes but seems to be cool with me riding. She is also getting pressure from friends to go riding with me, but so far she is not interested. I don't want to pressure her, have to see where that goes. Remember the words of the Worlds Most Interesting Man.

Welcome aboard from Houston! And congratulations on losing so much weight. The Fatboy is a sweet, sweet machine!

Be patient with her. I had an accident in 1997, hit the back fender of a pickup that pulled out in front of us. 30 mph but we still got concussions. She wouldn't ride in 98. I thought nothing of it. In June of 99 I bought my new Fat Boy. Once again she wouldn't ride. It took till 2001 for her to ride again. Even though I new she was scared to have another accident I never tried to, get her back on the horse after being bucked off! I love her and would hate to have talked her into riding again just to have another kid say, I didn't see him and this time not have her at all!

Welcome from the next state over. My kids (4) have all ridden with me and love it. But my wife never has. I have never pressured her. I upgraded to an Electra Glide this year but she still has no interest. Two years ago I bought her a fairly cheap Honda Shadow 750 from a guy near your neck of the woods (about 3 hours away from me in Iowa) and she has ridden it a handful of times with a learner's permit, but still has yet to take the MSF class.
But I look at it as a mixed blessing. When I go riding I like to ride, ride, ride, pee, ride, ride, ride, eat, ride, ride, <repeat>
Whenever I've gone with a group of people that include wives or gfs we sure seem to stop a lot more to do shopping :-)
But I know a lot of guys enjoy riding with their wives/gfs on back and I probably would too. But each style of riding has its pros and cons.
