Looking for GPS Information:

Since there probably folks on the board with a lot more GPS experience than I have, I am turning to y'all for advice and information:

I have a very old Garmin e-trax that is handheld, has a black and white screen and has to be programmed ahead of time by hooking it to my computer. It was one of the very first ones out.

Looking to upgrade to something more modern, but without too many bells and whistles. I looked at the Garmin Street Pilot c550, but I don't need all the features that one comes with.

Basically, I guess I'm saying that since I'm an old fart, I'm looking for something that is easy to operate, especially since I will be using it in both the car and on the bike.

Here are the features I would want:

- color screen, large enough to see without reading glasses.
- voice directions.
- some way to interface voice directions into my H-D headset and Ultra intercom system......
maybe through the aux input plug on the front of the H-D radio ?
- on screen destination address programming without hooking it to a computer.
- water 'resistant' so I can use it on the Ultra.
- handlebar mounting system & 12 volt plug.
- Portable dash mount for using in the car.
- Built in USA maps, the more detailed the better.
- Directory of gas stations, restaurants, etc.

That's about it, don't need all the other gadgets like using it as a telephone, phone number storage, MP3 capability, etc.

Anyone have any ideas ?

I'll second the Garmin series. I have the 2610. Added a 2 gig card and can hold all of the U.S.
Got mine on ebay and have loved it. I use it in both cars and the bike. I can use the touch screen even in the winter with thick Gerbings heated gloves.
Be careful if you use the "British" voice though, all of your destinations will be on the other side of the road

Thanks TexRod and 98RKC,

I found a new Garmin 2720 on Amazon.com for a very good price, just a little higher than a lot of places wanted for a refurbished model.

Wished I could afford the Zumo 550, but this discounted 2720 should do all I need it for !

Next day shipping was only $10.99, so it should be here Tuesday. Just ordered a RAM cradle for it, so I should be good to go !

Check out the TomTom rider. Designed for bikes. Water proof, handlebar mount with cable, car adapter, blutooth headset that could be easily hooked up to your Aux jack...even answres your bluetooth phone. GREAT device.

E-Bay Zumo 550
Great price... This is what I want..

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Garmin-Zumo-...QQcmdZViewItem

I had to take a few weeks off work, or would have already bought it..

Same seller has the 450 a little cheaper..
Either would be the deal on the bike or car....
