Tranny and Primary Oils

Just wondering what other oil could be used instead of the Harley Formula+ in the tranny and primary. I want something with the equivalent standards or better ofcourse. Looking for a product I could find closer to home instead of running to a Harley store 50 miles away. I do see some in the local parts stores but I want to know more about it before I start using it. Any knowledge of this would be appreciated.

Some use transmission fluid in the primary. Some use gear lube in transmission. Go to the oil section and read posts till you decide what you want to use.

A non-energy converving 20w50 oil is fine. Synthetic or dino. If running trans fluid, Dextron-III is best. Don't recommend using Type-F, as it lacks lubrication qualities and you have bearings in that primary. I've run most if not all of them, and just use 20w50 motor oil or Dextron-III.

I've used Amsoil in bikes since the late 60's and have had good mresults. You can buy amsoil at dealers but costs more.I joined amsoil as a member and order on line and gets ups to me in a couple of days and less expensive than at dealer cost. Hope this helps. vrod.

Well doin MY first oil change on this bike since I bought it. its a 08 road king with almost 21K miles now..
I finally decided with
AMSOIL SYN 20W50 for the Engine
Redline Shockproof Heavy for Tranny
AMSOIL 75/90 for Primary

I've heard great this about this RedLine shockproof, so I thought'd give it a try.
I'm taking a trip up to Indiana from Texas starting July 1st, So thought I'd service her a bit for a 1200 ride.
