I sent the jugs and pistons to them about a week ago so they can look at them.

i have a hard time believing this theory. if it was big enough to scuff up pistons or cylinder walls/jugs then the fuel filter should have stopped it. if it was primer or paint it should have dissolved long before getting to the cylinders.

and if it DID get into the combustion chamber and was ignited any foreign substance such as paint and or primer is flammable so mixed with gas would burn.

what kind of clearance did you have with the pistons and jugs?

Here is a picture of my jug

Here it is. I could not get a .0015 feller gauge between the piston and jug

I don't see how paint could do that. Even if it got in there it would only last a few strokes and pe gone. Paint is not hard enough to score the cylinder wall. If it was the cylinders wouldn't last.

You won't get a feeler guage to go between the piston and jug because of the rings. What did your old jugs look like? Why did this motor get a new top end? In other words; were there problems with it before the conversion? I saw this in two motors this past summer. Both had bottom end problems. It was little pieces of crank pin scoring the jugs.

maybe you should see what the clearance is on the pistons, if the cylinders were bored a little to big, you could be getting piston slap, but from the pic. the cylinders do not look all that bad.

This bike was a 883 and the old jugs looked good. I wanted something bigger so I bumped it up to a 1250. I tried to stick the feller gauge from the bottom side when I had the jugs off. Ill check my crank pin if I can by looking down in the case.

What kind of cams, I built a 883 Sporty for a guy and used an S&S kit that came with heads and cams, kept on bending a valve, would readjust pushrods still no good, after talking with Aaron at S&S we figured out the cams were to big and had to put a little bit smaller cams. If you did change the cams did you check the valve to piston clearance?

I have the stock cams in it all I replaced was the jugs pistons had my heads worked over and my carb gone through. The rest is stock , I did put straight pipes on and put a adjustable nose cone ignition on.

On the 883 I had problems with, I could not tell from the top just by looking or wiggling or measuring that there was a problem with the crank pin. If your old jugs were good this may not be the problem.
