Zipper 1250 torqster kit
I have a 1992 sporster hugger 883. I have up dated it to a 1250 and had the heads and carb worked. I have 500 miles on motor now and going about 60 mph I can hear a knock or ping. First I upgraded my fuel octane it did not change. I checked my oil pressure checked good. It seems to start knocking when it is fully warmed up. I did some research on my ignition I have a Screamin Eagle ignition and I have read that it fully advances the timing around 2200 RPM. Could this be my problem.

Yes. Have it re-tuned before you damage something.
Do you know what CR you made it? That would matter a lot.
It might be running way lean. I'd limp it back to the shop that did the work.
They aren't finished yet.

Was it doing the same as an 883?
Mine(883) clacks sounds like a knock, they're not exactly known for silent running.

I tore the bike down it has about 600 miles on the new pistons and Jugs the Piston skirts was scuffed I cant see anything wrong. I have good oil pressure and the bike never got hot. I sent the jugs and pistons back to Zipper and they are giving me the run around and they wont give me an answer. I have this feeling they are doing what they can do to get out of there responsibility. A good company in my eyes takes care of the customer when they are wrong and tring to pin it on a customer. I have been building motors for 18 years and I have never had one go bad on me.
Everything on the bike looks perfect except the piston skirts and the jugs right were the piston skirts run. I think there is a clearance problem. Any ideas Iam trying not to vent.

I just went thru this with an 883 conversion. It was a rod knocking. Metal from the crank pin scuffed the jugs and skirts. It looked like a hand full of sand went thru it. The old motor had about 50,000 miles on it before the conversion. At its worst you could not tell the pin was damaged because it was only one side of the female rod. There was NO up and down movement.

Did you change out the hydraulic lifters out to solids, I built a Zippers motor for a guy about 6 years ago and the kit gave me new lifters that were solids and it was a noisy motor, even after putting it on the dyno and tuning it, it was still noisy, unless you are talking about a knock, are you sure you did not put the pistons in backwards and break the skirt of the piston on the rods? Just a thought.

I heard from Zippers today and they talk to me for a while and I told them exactly how I put the motor together step by step. They asked me if I had anything painted I told them my tins and tank.
They come up with the idea that some kind of primer or paint was in the tank and it went through the fuel system and scuffed my pistons and jugs. I have never herd of that has anybody else herd of such a thing. I wish I new a step by step way how to put pictures on here so I can show the Jugs.
I sent the jugs and pistons to them about a week ago so they can look at them.

In all the years I have been building bikes/motors, I have never heard of anything like that, How did the cylinders look, were they all scuffed inside or did they look ok, besides that, was your tank sealed inside, and most painters tape off the gas cap openings, and they are trying to tell you that something went through your fuel filter, into the carb, through the intake, through the valves and damaged your cylinders, I would take your float bowl off and see if there is dirt in it. That makes no sense to me, if you got motor noises like a bottom end something is wrong, just a question, you using stock flywheels? Also, stock rocker arms and what cams you have in that? Was your bottom end redone ? Sorry this is so long, may also wanna check pushrods, if they are adjustable maybe you have them adjusted wrong.?

All I had done was the heads were redone and the carb and new pistons and jugs everything else is original the bike has 32000 miles on it. My pistons had vertical scratches and also my jugs on both sides of the pistons. I think they are pulling what they can out of the air.

Here's a link to a PDF file that explains how to. It relates to another site I visit. The limits on sizes and number per post will be different here, but the procedure is exactly the same (same forum software).

Generally speaking, you don't die on motorcycles.
You die a few yards away from what's left of them.
Yes, I have had two bottles of wine. What the fukk is your problem
