Considering Engine upgrade

I have a 2008 Road King that the dealer installed a 103 kit, SE 255 cam and racer tuner. Since they didn't address the intake or exhaust I had them install the Stage 2 intake, filter and put D&D 2 into 1 exhaust on the bike. It dyno'd at 97 ft lbs torque and 79 hp. Which I thought seemed low on the HP. Wanted a little more power and have talked two performance shops about an S&S 551 cam, Porting heads and a Power Commander to get the torque up another 8-10 and the HP up close to 100. Both shops have said the combination is fine and will help. They also said I should be close to the number already, saying both torque and hp should lightly above a hundred with what's already done to the bike. Anyone out there have any idea what the motor should be making as it is and is what I'm considering a descent way to go for the future. Any help would be appreciated

SE stuff is built to be reliable to the nth degree. Unfortunately that leaves it a little anemic in the power dept. You will definately notice an improvement with some S&S stuff, some more compression and head porting. A HP per cu in is a safe guidline. More than that is fun but you start to loose some reliability. S&S has a new cam product called easy start cams. They have a compression release built in!

i would have to say the bike wasnt dyno`ed correctly or theres something wrong with the tune on the racetuner big time.you should be putting out at least 95hp with the set up you have now.our 103"`s put out from 95-105,with our stage II heads 105-115

Yeah, I agree not dynoed right, my buddy has a 07 Roadglide, with the same kit he got 92hp and I think 102 ft. lb. torque, If I could recommend I got Vance and Hines CNC ported heads with oversized valves, I know, you do not believe Vance and Hines does heads but they do, Google vance and hines cnc ported heads, Like 1000 bucks or so, I love mine.

Good grief! I'm getting 77.4 hp and 91.2 tq from a 95 inch with nothing more than a 204 cam and SE mufflers. No race tuner or nothing. I think you got hosed on the dyno and race tuner set up.

I'm confused. Your power increase with the 103 kit isn't that great, IMO. But perhaps your power is more usable than mine? I've gotten beat by a 103" before. The one I rode with was certainly more powerful than my 96". Not by a hell of a lot though... less than both of us expected at the time given my crap for an exhaust. I match 750 cc crotch rockets on a good day but they usually can take me past 60 mph nonetheless.

On my 96", with a SERT Stage 1, I ran two dyno tests over a period of three months with the same set-up. (The dynos were done in Germany at a place called Thunderbike, which is a notable builder and HD dealer.) I ran the second dyno because I was not happy with my power curve. The median power achieved was 84 hp and 94 ft. lbs. Got 86 hp on one run.

This was with an Arlen Ness Big Sucker Stage 1 (new filter) and 1/2" drilled stock pipes only using 95 octane gas (no 93 in Europe) on a 70-ish degree day with moderate humidity. I can't say my seat of the pants power curve is amazing... there's a flat spot especially in 4th and it dips off quick at very high RPMs. I attached my Dyno chart, which is in European measurements of KW (their measurement for HP) and nM (their torque measurement). I converted the numbers provided above.

I've been told three times if I get a real exhaust put on that my power/torque curve will become better, but my power will remain similar. At high RPMs on the move and in higher gears, my bike sucks. Of the line, it's a tire burner. In the middle it isn't awful but I would like it to be more punchy. It's a bit "late."

To clarify my signature, I have the BUB Jug Huggers in the U.S. (which suck for midrange power, by the way.) I took my bike to Europe with the stock exhaust and couldn't stand how quiet it was so I drilled the stock pipes. I don't have the dyno sheet from when I had them on the bike, unfortunately. I remember it had BS for midrange power with them, though. Made a beautiful sound, though!

Mmmm ....... i'd say your power is WAY down, seen a well set-up 80" rivaling those figures.
Got sick of changing 'little' things on mine (1991 FXR) and saved all my pennies to buy a complete Sputhe 110" engine ....... in the process of fitting it now ............ Soooo looking forward to starting it up.
