Stage 1 Upgrade - poor performance at high speeds
I have a 2008 FXSTB (night train). It was completely stock, and I installed a stage 1 kit with the following:
SUPER FILTER INTAKE CV/DELPHI
POWER COMMANDER V
V&H EXH SYSTEM BIG RADIUS
I downloaded the appropriate MAP and my bike performed great at speeds <60MPH. When going about 60MPH in 6th gear I *feels* like I need to shift.
After saving a few hundred bucks for Harley Davidson to dyno tune my bike, the completed the tune. It runs basically the same.
I still same high speed problems, except now at high speeds the oil breathers leak like a civ.
If anybody has any advice, or guidance this “righty tighty lefty loosy” guy would much appreciate it.
My current problem makes long distance rides fairly uncomfortable.

You shouldnt be running 60mph in 6th gear. Its very hard on the engine when you do this. I dont touch 6th gear unless im over 70-75mph. I had the same problem when I forst bought my 07 rkc. Running that slow with that low of rpms makes the engine lug.

you say it "feels" like you need to shift... Does it feel like you need to upshift or downshift? That could help clarify the problem.

It feels like I need to upshift.
Back before I put the upgrade kit on, I agree, I never used 6th until 75+.
Now it feels like the RPM is maxing out at 65ish in 6th gear.
I have the dyno from Harley and called them about my problems. Sounds like they are going to take a look again.
The dyno was a little hard to read, but it looked like the RPMs maxed out at 6k

I don't know what the problem is but you're right, something is wrong. Let us know what they dyno guys do when you take it back

Without placing the bike on a dyno, how do you know it's the "Appropriate map"?
Secondly.....most 6 speeds you can barely ride it in 6th at 55-60, because it's lugginh the engine so bad.

I have to agree that 55-60 is too slow for 6th. I downshift to 5th between 60-65. My bike is happy cruising in 6th at 70+.

Consider throwing in the SE 204 cam. It might fill in those voids. I have a 2001 Ultra bought used. In the first year I had the stg 1, w/ gear drive/tensioner upgrade and SE 204 cam. Love it, no problems either.

Thanks for the replies. Does sound like my bike is NOT exibiting the appropiate 6th gear behaviour.
I will reply back when Harley re-tunes it on the dyno for free :-) They said they would stand by their work.
Thanks,
Jason

Sounds completely like a tuning issue. The fuel delivery setting are off. I wouldn't say rich or lean but ill timed. Hope they pay more attention to fuel delivery setpoints.
