stage 1 upgrade

I have a 2012 Dyna Superglide Custom. Installed Python slashcut slip-ons and was happy with the sound and performance. Was looking forward to SE stage 1 air and SE performance tuner installs. I installed air yesterday and dealer the tuner today. Really not much different than after the muffler change. The bike runs great, just thought I would notice improvement. Were my expectations too high? Thoughts.

You will not see much of a seat of the pants difference with a SE AirCleaner, Slip-ons and a factory download. ( Stage 1 )

I saw and felt a difference when I did my stage 1.........BUT I did not use the factory download, I opted for the Screaming Eagle Super Tuner (SEST) and had it Dyno Tuned. It was in my humble opinion worth every penny. My bike is treated like a U-haul with my Nomadic lifestyle, and gets loaded down like the last camel out of Bethlehem and I felt the extra grunt that I was needing.

Pretty much the dealer Stage 1 primary goal is to put slip-ons on the bike and still stay EPA compliant and not lean the bike out too much. So do not expect to get pushed back in the seat when you twist the wick.

Thanks. It was the SE Super Tuner, but no Dyno. The dealer doesn't have one. Do I have the option of using the tuner in the future to make changes myself?

I am not sure whether you have a cat in your exhaust but if you still do, you are defeating the purpose / results of a Stage 1 upgrade. The air cleaner allows more air into the engine but the cat prevents you from getting good results.

I have a 2012 SG. I removed the cat out of my headers, recored my stock mufflers, added a RSD A/C and a Power Commander V and I see quite a differnce in both power and performace. I also reduced all the heat coming from cat as a bonus.

I am sure if you review other threads in this section about Stage 1s, you will see what you need to do. BTW, your dealer will not remove the CAT so you will need to find another mechanic for that. Good luck!

So, if you replace the head pipes is the CAT removed? If it is removed by other means and everything else remains the same do I need to have them redo the tune? Thanks for the input!

You can do a couple of things.....take your stock header and have the cat removed either by a local mechanic who knows his chit, you can buy / trade your header with a company like this http://www.americancustom.com/ or you can buy a header from someplace like this *Jackpot 2/1/2 Headpipes . As far as your tuner, I have a PCV with a mpa loaded for my particular setup. I am not familiar with the SE Super Tuner but if you use this link, which is a search of your tuner in this forum, you should find the answer........later Harley Davidson Forums: Harley Davidson Motorcycle Forum - Search Results

You are coming around 2nd base, heading for home at this point.
With the installation of either a Wood 222 cam set, or an Andrews 48, and then professionally tuned, you'll see at/very near 100 ft/lbs of torque, and 90 hp.
You'll FEEL that.

Frank, how do you like the power commander? i was asking the guys at the bikes blues and bbq about it whether i would see that much difference over the V&H fuel pack, they could not guarantee a significant amount so i didnt spend the 600 bucks for the commander and dyno tune...
