Because they're narrow band sensors that only function in the 400-800 ohm range, rather then 0-1000 ohms, like wideband sensors do. The PCIII over-rides the OEM ECU's functions, using only its base values, and the O2 sensors would feed unnecessary info to the PCIII if they remained.
The PCIII is basically feeding it's program (MAP) through to your injectors and eliminating your ECMs MAP.
