Rocker performance upgrades

Got a few questions and want to get opinions on performance accessories I'm interested in.

Here's the list:

1.) (a.) Screaming Eagle Heavy Breather (b.) Roland Sands Designs Venturi Air Cleaner (black)

2.) Vance & Hines Big Radius (black) 2 into 2 (baffles or not? What do yall think?)

3.) (a.) Harley Race Tuner (b.) Power Commander (which model do I need?) (c.) any other brand suggestions?

Any alternative suggestions or opinions would be great.

Thanks

V&H sound great, but make crap for power. Look for a good 2-1 exhaust. There are many out there that still look good, and as long as the headers are close to equal length befor the collector they will make good power, like a Supertrapp, Hooker, Bassani, etc., or even a V&H Pro Pipe. Not even joking, a 2-1 will make as much as 15 HP more than most 2-2s with proper tuning. Supertrapp used to make the factory Big Dog 2-1s, which look and perform excellent. As far as you Air Cleaner, the Screamin Eagle heavy breather is good but make sure not to run it with the sock on unless it is ACTUALLY raining, because it'll cost you 4-6 hp when installed. Found this out with the Forcewinder on my Buell.

Hey Bama, Nice ride. I have the SE heavy breather, Big Radius. Race tuner. I like it. I think it had 12hp gain with it. I want to put a big boar kit down the road in it. Try Jeffrery Phipps Custom Saddles for seat choices. Danny gray , Corbin have some to. Use search and look up DBS1949 he has a sweet rocker with a lot of work done.

Thanks guys.

I heard that HD produces the S&S motors...Is this correct info? Don't know, I just heard it from some random person this weekend.

If so, is it possible to bore and stroke my "ole 96'er" out to like a 130 c.i. ?

No....S&S makes their motors. The parts are interchangeable in some cases, but it's not owned by HD. The company was founded by George Smith in 1958, dedicated to making high performance HD parts.

If you want a 130 or a 140 ci motor, the only thing that's gonna get used from your engine is the cases and crank. You'd be better off buying one already made, with good heads, cams, rods and pistons already matched/machined.

Thanks for the clarification Dave. I didn't think it was 100% correct, but I just rolled along with it, until I could get some clarification from yall.

That's what I was afraid of...Anyone know how much one of those 140's run? Probably alot more than I wanna spend on a new bike. LOL

How far can you bore out the 96 without having to change the heads. And how large can I stroke it?

A good tuned 2-1 exhaust will regain you a lot of the performance you're looking for with the big bore kit. S&S makes good bottom ends, but I would use elsewhere top ends. With the properly designed top end you can make all the power you want. If NRHS can get 124 RWHP out of a street-ridden 76" Buell on pump gas, then you can get plenty of power out of 96"...

124" is as big as you can go on stock Twin Cam cases. 124" would be 4 1/8" bore and 4 5/8" stroke, compared to stock displacement 96" of 3 3/4" bore and 4 3/8" stroke (4" stroke for 88").

To go bigger you will need aftermarket cases.

Just a note:

The 124" motors are .060" taller than stock.

To maintain stock external dimensions, the biggest you can go is 117" .... 4 1/8" bore and a stock 96 incher's crank with a 4 3/8" stroke)

So I could bore my stock cylinders to 4-1/8" and use my stock 96 crank? Or are you saying for me to use a stock 88 crank which has a factory 4-5/8" stroke.

Sorry if I don't understand. Never messed with Harleys before. Mostly single-cylinder dirtbikes & 4-wheelers.

Any help is grately appreciated.

Thanks
