VHT Wrinkle black

Used some of VHT's (Duplicolor) new wrinkle black this weekend. Wanted to duplicate the belt gaurd and brake hanger's finish, but freshen it up, removing scratched from 15 years of tire changed and wear.

2-3 coats are necessary to achieve correct finish, and it HAS to be warm out, at least over 75*. It takes about 2 hours to get the finish to come out completely, including a dull, wrinkley finish. It's shiney until it's dry......then it turns dull.

did you by chance do a test piece to see how scratch resistant of coating this is? I'd be interested to see how well it holds up.
also, the heads on my evo ar starting to peel a little, is this stuff heat resistant?

VHT means Very High Temp....

Rocker.... I haven't intentionally scratched it, but it's paint. So, compared to powdercoating, it has to be weaker, by nature. However, it is heat resistant paint, (VHT=Very High Temp) up to 350* and recomended for valve covers and such. Not for manifolds or exhaust.

My plan is to do the entire engine in it this winter, with chrome rocker boxes....

cool, I'm thinking horn cover, oil tank, rear pulley, don't have a belt guard, but if I get one on the cheap, it'll get the same treatment. maybe even fender struts.

is the stuff readily available?

I bought it at Autozone. Advanced Auto carries it too. Probably PepBags, as well......
