Street Pilot 2820

Looking for a GPS for the bike. Water proof and able to look for POIs.

I have a chance to get a Street Pilot 2820 for cheap ( new and only 25% of what it originally costs ) . These are discontinued but newer models are expensive.

Anyone have this unit and care to comment on it? Is this unit still viable? Or are there other models out there that would be a better choice?

I believe the Garmin Zumo line and the Tom Tom Rider are the only consumer GPS units out that are waterproof. I believe they are all $500+ in price. I plan on using the Garmin Nuvi I use in the auto and protecting it in rain situations. I hope this is helpful.

Nope... the StreetPilots are waterproof, as well. I have a 2620.

Garmin 276C or 376C if you want XM. You should be able to get a good deal now on the 376C because Garmin just discontinued it.
I wish there was another company other than Garmin because lately their product line has been going straight to the dumpster.
They seem to thing that the buying public wants watered down versions of their products.

I gotta agree with you, to a point. I bought my first GPS (Garmin III) back in '97 and was one complicated SOB - the manual read like War and Peace! I moved to the 2620 and, although it isn't as complicated as the III, it still has a lot of good features. I went for the cheap this last time and bought a Nuvi. The manual - if you want to call it that - is no more than a flier.

The more popular they become, the more basic, consumer-driven they are. They want your grandma to be able to use one with little to no intervention.

I stand corrected.

Apparently, the 2620 is housed in a metallic-silver casing built to IPX7 standards (which means it can withstand accidental immersion in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes).

Or, a driving rain-storm

The 2820 is waterproof and originally sold for over $900. I get his one for $250 and it is still brand new.

I had the 2610 and just got a refurbed 2720 for 115 shipped. I love these units and already had the motorcycle mount from the 2610.

I don't care about water proofing. Find me a GPS system that doesn't take until I get to my destination to find the mother f'ing satellites!
