Solved - Windshield Airflow Probelm
Hello again all.
Well, after three windshields and much frustration, I have come upon an acceptable solution to my windshield airflow problem. I removed the spoiler from the back of my Shoei RF-1000 helmet. Now all I have is just normal wind noise. Wow!
Background (if you're interested): First I tried the big quick-release windshield. That one nearly took my head off. Then I tried the low profile version of the quick-release. That one resulted in very minor improvement, but not really worth mentioning. Then I went with the little sport windshield. That one was definitely the better of the three, but there was still enough buffeting to be bothersome, but tolerable over short distances. I bought a Laminar Lip and tried it in different positions, but it made no difference so I sent it back. Then I discovered that if I put my hand on the back of my helmet while riding, the buffeting went away. So, I removed the spoiler from the helmet. It's just held on with sticky tape and only costs about $15 to replace if I want to put a new one back on. A tremendous difference! I still feel a little turbulent air on my helmet, but barely different from having no windshield at all. Completely acceptable for me. Even my wife was amazed at the difference (she has the same sport windshield on her Sportster and the same helmet).
Bottom line: We're ready for the road!
Hope this advice helps!
