Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina....
Total trip: 1212.8 miles
Departure City: Canton, GA
Destination: Unkown!
Reservations: none - didn't want any
Day 1:
Departed Canton at 8AM and headed for the interstate. Bike overheated in traffic before I made it to the interstate (warning light came on, so I pulled over and let it sit for 15 minutes). After the break, got back in the traffic, and made it to the interstate. All was good from there. I was on my way to Orlando, FL. Got about half way there and had to stop for a conference call - and during the stop saw that my derby cover was leaking, again. Jumped on the bike and kept on going. About 90 miles out of Orlando the clouds were just too dark to keep going so I pulled over and put the rain gear on. Within 3 minutes the rain came down in buckets...but I stayed dry as a bone. 90 miles in the rain....
Made it to Orlando and went straight to the Harley dealership and asked them to fix the derby cover (yup, they put goop all over it and told me it was likely an issue with my primary that should be covered by my extended warranty). Checked into a hotel and rode to dinner. End of day one....thankfully.
Day 2:
Woke up in Orlando, FL. Rode around town for a bit just to see it and to find the BMW dealership for my friends bike (turn signal broke from debris on the road). Left Orlando and headed to Daytona Beach around 11:30 AM. Got to Daytona Beach and just kept riding east until I hit water. When I hit water, I turned left and went north up the coast along the water. It was a beautiful sunny ride. Stayed along the beach until I was forced to turn back, headed a little west, then went north on I95. Ended the day in Savannah, GA around 7PM. Entire day on the bike (except meals and fuel stops...my arss was killin' me).
Day 3:
Leave hotel and go the coast of Savannah, GA. Ride a cobble stone road to check out a bunch of shops (I hate shopping, so I never got off the bike). Saw a cool lookin' bridge, so I found my way to it and rode over. Ended up in South Carolina, go figure (and who cares!!!). Saw a sign for an indoor shooting range, so I rode to the range. Unloaded about 100 rounds from my Glock. As I left the shooting range, I saw a sign for "Hilton Head, South Carolina." I've heard it is beautiful, so I headed that way. Had lunch in Hilton Head....yeah, it's pretty there. After lunch I thought I would start heading home to Canton. Looked for any road (not interstate) that said "west" and took it. Got "lost" a couple times (that is hard to define because I never had directions or knew where I was going) but eventually heading west I was going to hit Atlanta....and I did. Ran into an interstate that I recognized and 25 minutes later I was eating dinner at my local Zaxby's.
Those were three of the most care free days I have had in a VERY long time. Amazing what you have time to think about when all you can hear is the roar of your engine for three days and 1200 miles.
Can't wait to do it all over again....just in another direction!
