Ideas for the PCH please!
Hi,
I'm planning to 'do' the Pacific Coast Highway next year. I'll be flying into LA or San Francisco and leaving from Seattle. I've only got 2 weeks to do it in so I'd really appreciate any ideas you have fo places I shouldn't miss. So far I've planned on camping in Big Sur and Yosemite NP but I don't know the road north of San Francisco so any tips would be welcome.
Thanks very much in advance!

Graham... You will have a fantastic time and ride. All the way to Seattle as you ride this long and great road. IMO, the trip is the road. Go see some of the parks like Yosemite, Redwoods, perhaps Crater Lake in Oregon and others, but there's an overwhelming amount to see just along this ride. Searching "Pacific Coast Highway" at Google will reveal all kinds of links to great ideas and tips.

Planning a similar trip in august. starting in Sebastapol.(just north of san fran) going right thru the redwoods. Got maps of each county at AAA. helped a lot in planning. lots of small roads just after redwoods then over to Klamath falls. Remember AAA best maps in the world. Have a fun ride.

yeah i get it. I live in SD and the ride north is nothin to waste your time about. Mostly Santa Barbera on up is good. I happen to have a friend who owns a winery in Sebastapol and we are starting from there. Eventually. may have to spend an extra day sobering up first.

Trip
Dont just stop in Seattle, go north bout 75 miles to a place Deception
pass, what a view. You must run the Columbia river between Oregan
and Washington, I ve seen all of America and that 100 mile run up the river from Portland is one of the most beautiful of all, its like a run through Heaven, cliffs 700 feet straight up with waterfalls, breathtakeing. Wish I could go, have fun.

I agree. SD to SB is nothing to write home about. Nice beaches, but too many people on them and too many people in cars. Wine country in Santa Barbara is great. I would spend a day and visit a few (then sober up over night and move on!) My wife and I did the wine country a few years ago - even if you don't stop and drink, the ride through the hills is beautiful.
Ride safe
