Pacific Coast Highway 101

Hey all,

My son and I are getting ready to head West from the Seattle area to the coastline and ride highway 101 down to SanFrancisco, I've heard that this stretch is truely breath-taking. Anyone ever ridden this?...My question is, if we're planning on riding 300+ miles per day and starting say by 9am, are we gonna make that before dark?...I would think so....your thoughts?

Thanks in advance

101 or 1? I've done 1 north from San Francisco and it is truly spectacular. 300 miles/day should be most enjoyable. Maybe Steve or one of the west-coast guys will chime in with more...

Hey KB,

Well actually, it'll be Highway 101 from the Seattle area to around Leggett, Ca I beleive, then its Highway 1 South from there to the Panoramic Highway through Muir Woods. I'm most concerned that if we're say 350+ away from San Rafael, and we start by 9am, will we make it through the woods before dark, or will we have to divert and stay on 1 into San Rafael...

Should be no problem, unless you stop a lot...and take a good digital camera that you can shoot on the fly...I have a cat leash from Walmart on mine to keep from dropping it...

No worries....I'll have a camera that I use on the fly.....also, we'll be camping a couple of nights on the way down...one night on Devil's Lake in Oregon...the next night at Prairie Creek Redwood Park in Ca.....

Hwy 101/1

If you have time you might extend your trip a bit more south to San Clemente or even San Luis Obisbo there's a lot of beauty on that road!
