Someone may have attempted to seal the tank with KREEM. It's a methylethylketone based chemical sealant. If done incorrectly, or is old, it may be pealing and showing up in your filter.

As for removing it................kinda why I never use it. It's a last ditch effort material to save an old Non-replacable, rusty, perforated tank. Not sure if filling the tank with more liquid methylethylketone and letting it sit or not would remove it.......

Mek is the only thing thatll remove it get it at ur local marina.
Or you can have it hot tanked at a radiator shop but youll lose ur paint to.
The new fad is garage floor epoxy chemical resitant paint.I wouldnt use any of it.
bare metal is the way for generations cause it works plain and simple.

acetone will disolve kreem, but you take the chance of damaging your paint as well. Many new "custom" tanks need to be kremed as they are mass produced and many have substandard welds that form leaks. Had that problem with a king sporty tank
