2009 Fatboy
I have not owned a street bike in 20 years (turned 50 in July). I have been riding a friends RK and am going to buy a Harley. I have decided on a Fatboy - now I just have to decide if I want to buy used and save some cash, or pay the Harley Tax and buy new.
I found a 2009 at a dealer not too far from me with Black/Blue Ice paint and the chrome wheels. I looked at it and he offered me $17,200 out the door without any negotiating on my part. He left in shipping, dealer prep, taxes, and title, but offered a 2,000 incentive on the 09. I am planning on going back and asking him to drop the $705 shipping and $199 prep. That would get me out the door at $16,300.
If this is a great deal, I don't want someone else to snag the bike while I am pissing around over $900. If it is a good deal, then I will think about it. If it is not a good deal, what else should I ask for?
Thanks.

I bet you could get them to drop the shipping and prep and get under MSRP. Be ready to buy when you make the offer, as it will give you leverage. They don't want 2009 bikes sitting on their floor come October.

The economy is hurting them just like everyone else. I picked up my 09 Night Train back in late May and negotiated over $2500 off of MSRP with them. Best of all it was with pretty much no effort. Just stick to your guns and if you don't feel it's what you want pay, then don't do it. Don't be afraid to walk out either.

I bought an 09 last September when they were just shipping in. They uncrated it and I bought it. The $16k base, plus the chrome wheel kit (700) & security (300) + the 5 year maint, out the door at $20 (pretty sure is was something like that. Got $1k gift card.) Love the bike.
BUT, now I pondering on the RD/Heritage/Glide because all the extras you get for a few bucks more. Something to seriously think about. But, for around town......I love it. I like sitting IN the bike vs ON the bike, like RK.
However, to trade in on a RD, it was a $3500 hit. Not going to happen.
HD hold their value, but the dealers need to move th 09s, so now it the time. I personally went new for several reasons, but mainly not to buy someone elses problems, and besides, it was my bday present to me at 56.
Most all dealers in the Chicago area stick with list pricing, but have been dealing a litttle since this economy sucks..
Hell, you can always make more money, and 50 is just a digit. Treat yourself.

Sounds like a Good Deal, I would negotiate some on it and see if they come down, that Black/Blue Ice is a Nice Color, I don't see them anymore. Good Luck
