Does this sound crazy?
This is my first Harley-Davidson. I purchased an 08 Rocker. I went to my dealer and was going to order V&H pipes, Screaming Eagle intake(what they recomended) and Fuel Pack. They quoted me at 1700 and some change. This was without the price of the intall. Then he told me to take it to his friend and pay him to have it custom tuned.
Thankfully! I paid a bunch of stuff off that day and my credit union declined the transaction. They were closed for the day, so I figured I would just come back tomorrow.
I priced the V&H pipes, V&H intake and a V&H Fuel pack from Vanson & Hine's website for 1200 and some change.
Do all Harley dealers attempt to shaft you like mine just did?
I thought V&H's fuel pack was plug and play, am I right?
I owned Ducatis for the longest time and my Duc dealers always charged me exactly what they pay for the exhaust etc, and make their money when I pay them to install it. No crazy price gouging.
I am not to bad with a wrench, how hard would these be to install on the bike myself.
I live in the DC metro area if any of you know a place for me to take it to. Thanks in advance!

Shaft you? No. That's typical dealer mark-up.
Here's the deal guys.... you buy stuff at the dealer, and expect to pay the most for it.
This is no different then buying parts from your CAR dealership.
My Dodge truck: Clutch fan: Dealer-$150. NAPA-$54
Stop handing dealers money for parts you can buy over the internet.
Of course......most will reply: "But the dealer said if I buy it from them, and have them install it, they'll honor my warranty...."
Believe what you want.....

All the V&H stuff in costly...I get everything for 5% over cost! so I'll never bitch...from power sports dealer NOT HD, HD gives a lousy 10% off, sometimes would knock labor down after jacking it up..I know the games having worked @ a dealer. the mark-up is outrageous!!! What alot of dealers do is jack labor, then take away an hour or so when someone bitches...you bitch there still ahead of the game, you don't there way ahead of the game...
SOOOOO, my suggestion if labors high..put pipes, breather on yourself...pretty easy. Not familiar w/ the Fuel pack by V&H, but I would think would be easy install if using all there components? my opinion, price seems high, buy bike from dealer, no % off?? Do work yourself, screw the dealer......

The V&H stuff you're getting is all straight forward installation with good instructions . Do it yourself and save $ . I'm pretty sure the fuel pack comes with maps but go to the website and download the latest and greatest as the disks that come with fuel management systems are usually outdated by the time they get sold . Then if you don't feel that you can get the map correct yourself you can afford a dyno tune with the $ you saved by doing it yourself !

You could put all of that crap on by yourself, easy and cheap...and even drink beer while doin it. The V&H map, will probably be pre-set for your set up.

dude the fan from mopar and the fan from NAPA is not even the same part. Napa sucks SO bad you dont even know....trust me, the parts are not the same and dont let anyone tell you otherwise....years of installing napa crapa tells me this.
I usually agree with Dave, but you get what you pay for. Oh, and forget the warranty...dont be fooled by a guaranteed piece of crap from the lowest quality parts houses (i.e. checker, autozone, advance, oriely etc)
sorry i got wound up, but trust me i know

I have an 08 Rocker with vance and hines pipes that I bought from the harley dealership for the same price as advertised on drag specialties installed the pipes and breather myself and went with the screaming eagle race tuner and dyno all for 1500 . The fuel pack is the cheaper way to go but the difference is if youo ever want to change your pipes with the tuner you can and on;y have to pay for the dyno time , not sure you can do that with the fuel pack if you change brand of pipes !?!? The dyno is kinda a rip off for the charge though cause they charge a flat book rate of like 2 hrs when it only takes like 30 min, I know cause I watched them tune my bike !
