I was under the impression you only ran tubes on laced wheels. Thanks

The difference between tires marked "Tubeless" and "Tube Type" is the inside construction of the tire itself. In tube type tires, there's an inner tube sealing the air component whereas in tubeless there is an applied butyl lining on the inner wall to retain air, and not have it leak as quickly, or seep through the tire construction.
Tubeless tires are generally lighter when mounted (of the same comparable plies), since there's no tube and has less rotating mass. As well, a tubeless tire will lose air slower then a tube tire in the event of a puncture, as tubes can actually tear when punctured, causing a rapid air loss, and partial dismounting.
You can run a Tube-type tire on a tubeless rim, but a tube is recommended, unless the tire says it can be used in both cases, like Avons.
I've also mentioned that you can make spoked tube rims tubeless, however, more research into it indicates it's not recommended, as a tubeless rim as a "rib" where the bead sits, preventing the tire from dismounting inward, in the event of air loss, unlike a tube type rim, that lacks such rib.
