fat boy

I am going to pull the trigger on a harley real soon...but first research.

Do the solid wheels of the fat boy interfere with the wind as much as I have heard?

Should I be concerned about the footboards scraping the road on a turn?

The wheels are no longer perfectly solid, rather reliefs have been cut into them. from what I've read, it's never been proven or disproven that solid wheels ever had any cause and affect in handling in the wind, on the fatboy.

The only concern you'd have to have about footboards scraping is if you rode the bike like it was a Ninja, or if you want to lower it. Outside of that, footboards don't scrape anymore, IMHO, then pegs. They're both at the same locations, although, pegs might give you just a smidge more clearence.

Even if they do scrape, they're hinged, to fold back a small amount rather then grab and end poorly.

Get used to hanging a foot/boot/flip-flop over the floor board, toes out, in turns, like I do. This way, if you're about to scrape, your boot scrapes first, and you're warned, before metal starts to scrape in corners.

Pauld... Don't have much to add to Dave's post. Can note I used to own a solid disk V-Rod and for years rode it in windy high altitude Colorado without any probs. Have scraped floorboards in Colorado canyons and you get to know right about when it is going to happen. No big deal, and as mentioned above, you need to be cranked over pretty far for it to happen.

Hey, can watch me grind the floorboard at about the 1:00 minute mark when I scooted the Fatboy like Heritage up nearby Bear Creek Canyon...

that was the prob i had going from my GSXR to the fatty.......the boards are hinged to a degree. that didn't help the mounting arm on mine tho i scraped enough metal off the bottom of the left side that i could poke an awl through to the hollow center

Fatboy Rims

I am on my third FLSTF 96-04-09. I have never had 1 problem with any wind and that's going at high speeds also. You will be fine.

The only problem I had with wind on my fatty is the 51MPH wind gust last week. (DAAaaa.) Other than that, the solid rim is no problem with the wind, despite what some way "think".
