compensator sproket removal

Is the lock nut on the compensator sproket left or right thread? How do you keep the crank from turning to break it loose? 93 fxsts-evo

Lefty loosey, righty tighty. Normal righthand threading. Clutch hub nut is lefthand or reversed threading, though.

Put the bike in 4th gear and have someone sit on it and hold on the rear brake. Use a breaker bar.

Outside of using an airgun, (not recommended by most) or using the special ring gear tool to hold it, that works fine.

Thanks brothers guess ill have to borrow air-had her in2nd and rolled it against wall still wont break loose got pissed and had to walk away

There's a tool ya need if ya don't have air , it's a steel wedge that fits between the comp sprocket and the starter sprocket on the clutch hub and you can probably make one out of some steel stock from the hardware store . The tool is about 5-6 inches long , 1 and 1/4 inch wide and about 3/16ths thick . If you do some measuring you'll figure it out . It fits between the sprockets kinda like this \ with a little more angle to loosen and reverse it to tighten . The tool wedges between the sprocket teeth and holds them in place while you're cranking on your 1/2 inch breaker bar with a 3 foot pipe on the end !

Yup , but it's a bit of a struggle . Ya gotta loosen up on the plastic chain adjuster slide all the way . Don't worry ya can't bend the chain with your bare hands either .
