FLSTN windshield install woes

I tried installing the windshield on my bike, which has passing lamps, and it seems the screws are too short...I can't get them threaded in with the plastic bushing and washers.

Anyone else have this issue?

You have to specify with/without passing lamps when you buy the windshield for an FLSTN or FLSTF, as they both use the same mounting hardware locations, in the triple trees, however, the windshield has to clear the lights.

You should be able to get the longer hardware from your dealer, or at a minumum, get stainless from Home-Depot/Lowes.

It's not quick-release, right?

As long as it fits, clears the lights and sits back far enough, you need the longer hardware.

If it won't clear the aux lights when held over the mounting holes, you need the other windshield with different mounting brackets.

Thanks Dave. It is the quick release model. The screws it came with are the same length as the originals.

I guess maybe they are not long enough with the bushings.

It sounds as if you got the mounting kit for No Aux Lights. The ones that mount the windshield with Aux lights HAVE to be longer, as they go through the Aux light mounts AND the tins.

harley makes a windshield just for the FLSTN, and comes with the mounting hardware, it also says in the 2010 parts book it will fit with, or without the auxiliary lights...#57140-05

I bought the Detachable Kit for My Bike from American Classic Motors on Ebay, got the whole kit for $200.00 New and fit right on with no problems, I had to let them know what parts were needed for the Kit and Bike.

I agree with dave, just run down to Lowes and get some ss bolts, much cheaper than mounting bolts from the dealership.
