09 Softail Deluxe screwed up from factory.

Im bummed.

Bought a brand new, 09 softail deluxe from ** hd, about a month ago.
Ive put about 400 miles on it, mostly driving back and forth to the dealer...about a 50 mile round trip....having a windshield ordered, then back to have it installed. The I drove it down there to order my saddlebags, back home, and back a couple of times to get some small accessories.

Anyway, I noticed this morning that the chrome belt cover was tweaked, showing about 1/4 inch of the belt, near the end of the cover where it curves around the belt wheel.

It wasnt the reason I took it there, but I pointed it out to ******, asked him why it was off so much?

He takes it into the back and comes out and tells me the entire swing arm, suspension, rear end was out of wac, and the belt has been rubbing on the swing arm since ive owned it.

Its under warranty, so I left it there and theyre gonna fix it...new bushings, swingarm, belt...even new chrome oil lines that were showing some oil at the gaskets, at the motor.

Im asking, how does this happen? Was it assembled on friday...some worker in a hurry to get home? Or on a monday...some dude hung over from a tuff weekend of partying?

Im really pissed. I paid good frakin money for a new hd, knowing I was getting the best.

Anybody have this happen to them, or know of something like this happening to another unlucky person?

Im even thinking the bike may have been used, maybe brought back and lemoned or something, and just put back on the showroom floor.
You know? Saw me coming...that kind of thing.

Of course, thats just my anger speaking, I suppose. And the reason im leaving out the dealers name, and the service dude's name. Dont want to slander anyone if its just a 1 in a million fubar.

This shouldnt happen, should it????

What are the odds?

Really bummed, really angry, and really suspicious.

Can you get a swap? Wouldn't hurt to ask. Just a thought

they told me it must have been out of wac from assembly.
the bike had 3 miles on the odometer when i bought it.
one in a million they said.

as to asking for a swap, i thought about it, but did not mention it.
the mechanics are being real cool about it, replacing everything, rushing the orders, gonna try and get it back to me within the week.

but, if i get a call and they give me any more bad news.....the frame is bent or the tranny is in crooked, or whatever, then yeah, im gonna ask to swap it out for the 2010 model, which is exactly the same, and the base prices for the '10 softail deluxe are about 500 + bucks cheaper than the '09 models.

im thinking they are not gonna voluntarily swap out my bike for another new one, no matter how cool theyre being, or, no matter how much they sympathize, but your right scol, it wont hurt me to ask.

bushings seems to be the issue. bushings and/or the swingarm itself. in any case, its all being replaced, according to the head mech at the shop.

pisses me right off!!

anybody else got anything? heard of it? know about recalls or issues specifically with the swingarm or swingarm bushings for any new harley make or model?

thanks, fella's, for the feedback

actually anything man made, can have problems at any time....that's the nature, most of us aren't perfect. But it sounds like you have an awesome dealership, getting to it right away with no excuses, etc.

I know it sucks to be without the bike, but you will be getting it back better than it was

Never heard of that happeining but I guess it can. I would be pissed myself to say the least. Keep on top of the entire repair and make sure it is completed to your liking. Hope all works out for ya.

man...just reading this is making me sick....Been lucky...Every new HD i 've ever owned was perfect...knock on wood...You said ya got this about a month ago? If you financed it you can always threaten to void the contract unless they replace it...About the recall, there is a thread on this forum addressing recall issues..I think ya type in your year and model and out pops the info..Good luck dude...

Sorry to hear about your problem, Sounds like the Dealer is working with you, give them a chance to make it right, if you still have problems I would request another Bike. There is a Lemon Law on Vehicles/Bikes.
You can run the VIN# to check out the History on the Bike to make sure it was not used.

Thanks for the encouragment, dudes.
Yeah, so far, they are being very very cool about it, "we will order and replace and repair everything", i was told, but, you know, i keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.

"sorry dude, hd says this isnt in your warranty", or some unlucky thing like that.
but, im hoping thats just me being all bitter and s#!t. lol

didymus, bro, i was always the same way. never got a lemon bike, auto, or piece of bubble gum when i bought new. thats why this one's freaking me out.

when i went in to buy, i had cash, and i was impatient i think. i saw that beautiful black and chrome bike sitting there, all shiny and low and dudes, it was calling my name!

it was the last 09 on the showroom floor, and when i sat down with the salesman, he asked me if i wanted to wait a couple of weeks and get the 2010 model.
no, i said, i want that one right there.

of course, now im asking myself why that one was the only one out there, etc. etc.
double guessing myself, especially since i went in there yesterday and they had 2 or 3 of the '10 models, exactly like mine, not a bit of difference, and just a bit less money for the purchase.

i know rockerbox, its man made, stuff happens. im hoping that this is the excuse, a simple reason, with a simple fix.

they said they had to take some photo's of the screwed up stuff, send it off to hd.
is that normal for all warranty issues, or are they thinking something else?

cuz, thats my new fear, right? that theyre gonna say i did it somehow, and oh man....i dont even want to go there. shoot, the only darn place ive ridden the thing is to the dealer and back.

anyway didymus, ive already done some googling trying to find hd recall issues, and the swingarm is not an issue, the bushings, not a recall issue. although hd has recalled a few bikes, a few models here and there in the last few years, nothing with the 09 yet, nothing with my specific problem.

and nolafishr....i would love to know where i would go to run the vin # to get the history of the bike? where exactly can i do that?? (i'll send you a pm and ask, in case your on to other threads)

i wanna thank all of you who took the time to try and help, cheer me up, all that.
thanks. this is a good place to vent! lol (its not funny, man, not funny ;0)

i will let you know how it turns out, if your interested. let you know if they replace the stuff and keep it under warranty, etc.

Unreal !!! I would contact HD customer service and discuss the issue with them and take some pics and get documentation on everything . You've got some big bucks invested here so don't screw around .
