I had the old style crash bars on Mine 76 FLH and they saved it several times, did`nt even knock the mirrors out of alignment as the bike could`nt roll that far down.

I have a crazy idea....

Take them off, see if you like it better that way. If you do, leave them off. If you don't.... I bet you can guess what's coming next can't you?... That's right! Put them back on!!!!!

Its mad but it might just work!

Just to provide an alternative point of view.....

Don't trust your own opinion on this important issue! Watch this thread for two weeks, create a spreadsheet of all the differing viewpoints, hire a an analytical firm to crunch the data and present you with options. Go forward from there or conduct more opinion poll research, possibly from a different population segment.

Problem solved!!

For what it's worth, I'd keep 'em.

I've dropped my scooter twice, no damage thanks to the engine guard.

My riding buddy killed a deer with his crash guard. He probably would have dumped the bike if the deer hit his leg and not the bar.

( Sorry to the members that I keep showin' this pix, but the

"why do I want crash guards" question keeps coming up )

I consider this a "BEFORE" engine guards pix.

I have several occasions every day, and more during the night

to be reminded that I considered getting crash guards earlier,

and would not have this little reminder to carry with me forever.

BTW, I rather think I know my physics, and I would never have thought

that a 600 lb bike could fall over VERY quickly, faster than

a blink of the eye, but at 20 mph, my V-Rod went from upright in a curve,

to flat on the ground grinding leg in much less than a second.

I never had any perception of it happening,

never had a chance to even start to think OhShit!

A Quantum Leap, from upright in a curve to flat on my face and broken

with NO time or space between.
