06 Softail Standard Questions

Hello All,

I recently purchased an 06 FXST. My dealer said that he did not know exactly what mods had been done. I know it has V&H big shot staggered, but he also told me that the intake had been upgraded as well. I don't see a name or anything on the intake so how would I be able to tell? This is my first bike ever to ride or purchase. I've had it for a couple of months and really enjoy it. I would really lie to squeeze as much HP as possible from this thing though. I'm a decent sized guy (205lb) and the 88B needs a little help kickin me around! Thanks for looking.

Dealer not knowing anything or half the information about a bike: Typical.

Look at the airfilter housing. If it's plastic, it's stock. At best, it may have a K&N filter in it.

205lbs is average, unless you're 5'5" tall. If you want more HPs, look at cams and better fuel management. You never said if it was carbed or EFI, but either way, cams and better fuel management gets more fuel in, more air in, and more HPs.

After that, then adding inches to the engine is the only way, other then NOS or turbo/Supercharger.

Thanks for the info guys. I did look at the air filter and believe it is stock. Dave..the bike is EFI and it has a power commander III under the seat. Off to buy the service manual. SHMIDTY, can you suggest any good mags? Pics are cool but technical info is more interesting to me.

Easy Rider , Big Bike , Hot Bike even the vendor catalogs such as V-twin , Custom Chrome and Drag have tons of info and tech articles to get ya going and learning the nomenclature associated with motorcycles . Starting from scratch , information / knowledge is the most important first tool you'll aquire .
